question about grids/blocknaming/gts

I write a lot of scripts that use blocks named a certain way (like many do). One problem with this, is that if two ships become connected through a connector and they have blocks that are named the same, or contain the same search word (like "drone" or "thrust") conflicts will happen. Is there some way to differentiate between a connected grid and the original grid of the PB in a script? Like we can with colors in the terminal. Or do you have some other advice on how to prevent this problem....
